Unlimited chess game review
For iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android. No account.
A game review shows where a game turned: the moves that lost the advantage, the chances you missed and how accurately both sides played. On Chess.com, the full Game Review is limited for free accounts. Lichess analyses the games you play on Lichess. If you play a lot, or on both sites, you need a way to review every game in one place. This page explains what a review contains, where the limits are and how ChessWOW reviews your games from Chess.com and Lichess on your device, without a daily limit with ChessWOW Pro.
What a game review contains
The names differ from site to site, but a full review usually has the same parts:
- Accuracy for both sides: one number that sums up how close the moves were to the engine's best play.
- Evaluation graph: the engine's judgement after every move, so you see when the game tipped.
- Move classes: from best moves and book moves to inaccuracies, mistakes and blunders.
- Critical moments: the few positions where the result was decided, with the better move.
- Practice: the option to play those positions again until you find the right move.
Accuracy figures from different sites are not directly comparable, because each site calculates them in its own way. ChessWOW uses the method Lichess uses, based on winning chances. If you want to follow your progress, compare your accuracy over time in one tool rather than across tools. What the numbers mean in detail is explained in game report.
Where the limits are
- Chess.com: according to its membership overview, the free Basic membership includes one full game review per day. Unlimited Game Review is part of the paid Platinum and Diamond plans (at the time of writing).
- Lichess: Lichess offers computer analysis for games played on Lichess and an analysis board with Stockfish 19 at no cost. According to the Lichess features page, the deep server analysis is limited to 40 games per day, for every account. For games played on Lichess, that covers most players.
The gap is in between. If most of your games are on Chess.com, one review per day runs out quickly after an evening of blitz. And if you play on both sites, your reviews are spread across two places with two different accuracy methods, so the numbers do not line up.
How ChessWOW reviews games from Chess.com and Lichess
ChessWOW imports your games by username and builds the report on your device with Stockfish 19 and its full network.
- One library for both sites. Games from Chess.com (public games) and from Lichess land in the same library, next to games from PGN files and games you played in the app.
- One method for every game. Every report uses the same engine and the same accuracy formula, so a Chess.com game and a Lichess game can be compared directly.
- Critical moments in words. The report shows the evaluation graph and the move classes, explains each critical moment in plain words, names the opening and counts your book moves.
- Practice your mistakes. With "Retry" you play a critical position again. If your move is right, the board turns green; if not, an arrow shows the better move.
- Quick or thorough. A quick check takes at most 25 seconds. The full report searches deeper; you can set this under "Report depth".
- Offline after the import. Only the import needs an internet connection. Analysis and report run on your device.
Review a game in five steps
- Step 1
Open the import and choose Chess.com or Lichess.
- Step 2
Enter your username. ChessWOW loads your recent games. Your username stays on your device and is only sent to the site you chose.
- Step 3
Pick a game and start the report.
- Step 4
Read the critical moments first, then the evaluation graph. Before you look, think for a minute about where you felt unsure.
- Step 5
Practise the moments you missed with "Retry" until you find the move without help.
For games from tournaments or other sites, open a PGN file or paste a PGN from the clipboard. Private Chess.com games are not available by username, but you can download them as PGN on Chess.com and open the file. More on this in import your games.
What "unlimited" means in ChessWOW
Unlimited analyses and game reports are part of ChessWOW Pro, as a subscription or as a one-time lifetime purchase. Without Pro, depending on the current offer, you get either a daily allowance of analyses and reports, which renews at midnight local time, or a trial period. The App Store or Google Play shows the price and the terms before you confirm anything.
With Pro there is no daily counter. You can review all rounds of a tournament in one evening, or go back through the games of the last month and look for mistakes that keep coming back.
Who unlimited reviews are for
- Players with many games. If you play several blitz or rapid games a day, one review per day covers only a small part of them. The game you learn the most from is often not the one you would pick first.
- Tournament players. After a weekend tournament, review every round while you still remember what you were thinking at the board. Type up the games as PGN or import them from the site where you played.
- Coaches. Import a student's public games by username and go through the critical moments together on an iPad or a Mac, with the same method for every game.
- Players on both sites. One library and one accuracy method for Chess.com and Lichess.
If you play one or two games a week, a daily allowance may be enough. Unlimited reviews matter when the number of games is your limit, not the time you have to study them.
